Problem

There is a lack of advanced functional pizza ordering and delivery services in the Middle Volga region of Russia (in particular in Samara and the Samara region). Current applications have a number of serious flaws that I have to take into account in my work.

Goal

To make the best digital pizza ordering product in the region: convenient, stylish, modern and technological.

Research

Before starting to develop the project, I conducted an extended competitive analysis of food ordering applications (not just pizza). Then questions were prepared for respondents and interviews were conducted to find out the opinion of pizza consumers regarding the "application of their dreams".

What users think about similar apps

On average, out of the total number of respondents.
79% want to add new ingredients to pizza.
27% of users need to know the number of calories.
45% would like to see a more attractive interface.

Key pain points

1
Most want various advanced pizza settings before ordering.
2
Users want to get information about calories.
3
Photos of poor quality reduce the level of sales.
4
It's important for users to see in the application where the courier is located at the moment.

  • Little free time.
  • Not all my gastronomic wishes can be taken into account.

Wireframes

At the stage of ideation, a very large number of different concepts were presented: from classic and standard variants to the most daring and non-standard solutions. After the analysis, some of the ideas were further developed in the form of wireframes.

Prototypes

Prototypes

The clickable prototype testing stage showed that the availability of certain functionality does not mean usability. It turned out that a number of options in the application causes misunderstanding of users, and sometimes even confuses them.

By the way, a very important detail. Only those people who are not hungry at the moment should be invited to the usability study of the prototypes of the pizza ordering application :)

Usability study: findings

These are the key results of the usability study.
1
Adding a price to the "Buy" button speeds up the ordering process.
2
The pizza ingredient is easier to find if there is a familiar picture.
3
It's important for people to see where the courier is and when he will arrive.
4
It is better not to hide the date and cost of the current order deep inside your personal account.

Mockups

Communication with potential users of the product I'm developing has allowed me to get an amazing experience. It helped me to look at some things differently. All layouts of the project were finalized in accordance with the results of the study and the conclusions obtained. Below you can see some sample files in the final version of the app.

Conclusions

Trying to make a product that will not be like hundreds of others, it's necessary not to miss the most important thing and not get lost in the wilds of "useful options". Unusual is not always useful.
