Problem

Since the beginning of 2023, the dental clinic in Ebsdorfergrund (Germany) has been passed under the management and control of another doctor — Artemiy Reitz. However, the entire medical staff, the reputation earned earlier and the range of services remained unchanged.

Goal

To develop a modern technological website that supports the loyalty of current patients and deserves the trust of new clients of the clinic.

Research

Dentistry is a very popular topic for all people. Almost all of us sooner or later face the problem of dental treatment and have their own experience of using such services. The purpose of the interviews was to understand the criteria which the website of the clinic (that the user wants to contact) should meet.

What users expect from dental clinic websites?

On average, out of the total number of respondents.
25% are looking for a full description of the services provided.
74% want to be confident in the expertise of doctors.
37% hope to get the longest possible guarantee for dental services.

Key pain points

1
A complex formula for calculating the cost, risks of hidden payments.
2
Not enough modern medical equipment.
3
Lack of relevant experience of doctors to perform certain types of medical activities.
4
A small guarantee for dental services.

«I want my family to be healthy».

Frustrations

  • Unfamiliar city, lack of connections for recommendations.
  • Risks of choosing the wrong clinic.

Wireframes

It's extremely important to mention that the implementation of medical activities in Germany has its own specifics. For example, it's prohibited to post prices for medical services on websites. I had to study this and many other interesting things first, after which I moved on to visualizing ideas in the form of wireframes.

Prototypes

Prototypes

The stage of testing clickable prototypes helped to identify a number of mistakes, primarily in the block structure and positioning of the CTA (call-to-action) buttons. Also, together with steakholders, we selected the optimal versions of the arrangement of elements based on the results of testing layouts in a focus group of people from Germany.

The results of testing the theories allowed me to draw important conclusions and make changes in two directions. Firstly, I simplified several points. On the contrary, I supplemented other things with new information and made them more detailed.

Usability study: findings

These are the key results of the usability study.
1
German users have their own way of looking at things.
2
The shade of green #2A99A8 has a strong association with medicine.
3
Not all fonts have the same weight in visual accents when we work with texts in German.
4
It's important to take into account German pragmatism when working on a project.

Mockups

Generating ideas for the future website of the dental clinic, an interesting visual association came to my mind: I imagined the similarity of a smile with a watermelon. On all stock photo websites, healthy teeth are for some reason always a green apple and I wanted to break this stereotype. Stakeholders and focus groups favorably accepted this proposal, so this idea reached the final layouts.

Conclusions

While working with a foreign audience, it's important to know, understand and accept its specific features. This understanding should be put in the first place when developing a user-oriented design, because only such an approach will be effective.

This is a very good result, which is suitable for a dental clinic of this level!
