Problem

The search for the Seymchan meteorite is carried out by high-class professionals with survival skills in extreme conditions. Extensive experience in working with the necessary equipment, including for underwater research, many years of experience in geological research and meteoritics — all this allows you to organize expeditions with the greatest chances of successful finds as efficiently as possible. In December 2021, it became necessary to fully digitalize all of these processes.

Goal

The customer wanted to visualize his activities succinctly and effectively and show the advantages of participating in his expeditions and becoming a tokens holder.

Research

During the research on the project, I conducted interviews with people who are engaged in business (including those who are related with cryptocurrency).

What users are interested in about similar websites

On average, out of the total number of respondents.
87% primarily look at the return on investment.
30% study all stages of the roadmap.
57% explore membership details and tokenomics features.

Key pain points

1
Low profitability of crypto projects.
2
High risks of financial losses.
3
The vague essence of investment.
4
Questions to the expertise of the team.

Wireframes

Despite the fact that the project is small (it's essentially a one-page website), I have created several versions of wireframes to show various ways of development in different concepts. The topic of meteorites and space in general is very close and interesting to me, so I began to generate ideas for solving this problem with maximum creativity. In addition, I have studied a huge amount of material on the Internet (blogs, articles, videos) related to space, tokens and cryptocurrency.

Prototypes

Prototypes

To demonstrate all user transitions on landing screens, I created several versions of clickable prototypes and showed them to stakeholders. The prototypes were also tested on a focus group of users to collect initial feedback on the logic and functionality of the future website.

The test results showed me the weaknesses of the layouts, which were corrected immediately and completed to the final state. In particular, some fonts and image design styles have been changed.

Usability study: findings

These are the key results of the usability study.
1
It's better to present some information in text form rather than in a picture.
2
Complex and confusing charts can cause harm even on financial-related websites.
3
Tabs are a wonderful tool that turns a large amount of data into compact blocks.
4
A skillful combination of a beautiful visual with actual texts gives unexpected results.

Mockups

As soon as I processed and analyzed all the test outcomes, the layouts were finalized and presented to the project group. It included about 7 stakeholders who unanimously approved the result. I'm happy because I did my job perfectly and covered the needs of my customer.

Conclusions

This insight came to me during the research, and I will repeat it again: a skillful combination of a beautiful visual with actual texts gives unexpected results. It's extremely important for the designer to grasp this strategy and use it appropriately for the benefit of the user.
